INTRODUCTION
In India Super Napier grass is widespread in every part of the country and is currently used as animal feed for winter months around the year availability of feed to animals, A few Smart farmers also make silage out of Napier for proper digestion into Animal Rumain/Digester. We provide complete solutions for making silage and cutting Napier across hundreds of Locations in India.
The other names of napier known in India are King grass, Sudanese grass, elephant grass, super bullet, CO4 & CO5 varieties. In Brazil new Variety Capia Su was Launched for Maximum output that has achieved up to 300 tons per year per acre
The variety of the Napier grass is not so important. What is more important is the Grow period age/Dry Matter . The young Napier grass, harvested between 50 to 65 days, has a lot of moisture content. Dry matter content is just 15-22%. Bio CNG output in this unmatured Napier is just 45 to 65 kg per tonne of grass. The matured Napier grass, harvested in 90 to 110 days, had 32 to 36% solid and showed better production 85 to 95 kg bioCNG per tonne grass.
There is a superstition that with 6 harvests every 60 days there would be more grass than with 4 harvests every 90 days. But in reality the amount of total solid per year per ha will not change. What changes is the amount of water in the grass. Water takes the useful volume of the reactor. The older Napier grass requires 2 times less volume of reactors.
Silaging Importance / Storage of napier Grass
Making silage from Napier grass for several reasons.
(1) Fresh Napier grass has a lot of air. And because of the air Napier grass can abruptly go afloat in the reactors. It's not only difficult to mix the floating grass, but it is also dangerous. Floating grass may destroy the roof and clog the gas pipes. During silaging grass air is removed by hydrulic press or Jf Silo Masters large Jumbo Bags Packing as well as other solutions availabe with us.
(2) During silaging acidation and hydrolisis processes start and biogas yeilds are increased 5-10%. Grass is pre-fermented with the lacto-acid bacteria. The minimum silaging time is 24 days.
(3) Silage storage is also needed during the raining seasons & winters when harvesting is not possible. Reactors must be fed constantly independently from the weather.
